Ahead of the Monday 4th May resumption date for schools in Anambra State, Anambra State Education Policy Makers met to discuss the way forward in the post COVID-19 academic session.
Among the issues discussed during the meeting held at the Board room of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board Awka, was the reasons for reopening of schools on Monday 4th May 2020 without students.
The Government
Addressing the meeting, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof.
Kate Omenugha stated that teachers alone have been directed to resume in order to prepare the schools in line the necessary COVID-19 protocols before the return of students.
The teachers are further directed to ensure the schools are disinfected and observe social distancing in arranging lockers and chairs to minimize person to person contacts.
The meeting resolved to adopt blended learning, using face to face and on line teaching methods.
It also made clear that the online teaching applications sent in by the Federal Ministry of Education were free, warning private schools who collect money for it to stop forthwith.
It reminded all teachers coming to school on Monday to wear face mask, or risk not being allowed entry into the school.
Anambra State government has issued a fresh directive, cancelling the closure of all food markets and relocating it to other spaces.
A release by the state government had on Monday stated that from Tuesday, food markets will now operate in new places to enhance social distancing.
But the state commissioner for information, Mr C.Don Adinuba who spoke to DAILY POST on phone, said the decision has been cancelled.
“Food sellers will now relocate to their original markets as against the previous directive.
“This is because the spaces where the markets were relocated does not allow for social distancing, so the food sellers will now relocate to their original market, but will only hold three times a week; Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It’s just a little policy adjustment,” he said.
Meanwhile, an unsigned press statement by the state government, being circulated on social media has further corroborated the commissioner’s stand.
The release read, “I am directed to inform u that, H.E the Executive Governor of Anambra State has directed that all Markets to be re-opened. All the closed food stuff market in all the LGA’s be re-opened with immediate effect.
“Community leadership are to ensure that, only those who sale food items and essential food items are allowed to open their shops in the market.
“The current arrangement which started yesterday 14/04/2020 be disbanded immediately. It is prohibited to allow any trader to display any other item other than food stuff and essential food items in any market in the state during this period

Facebook has just introduced a new feature on its mobile app called quiet mode to help users manage their screen time. The feature will make it easier to disconnect from the app and take a break from the time spent staring at a screen.
The feature allows users to set a schedule for when they want to switch off notifications from the app and when they want to receive the. When turned on, the new feature won’t send the user any incoming notifications and will also make it difficult to launch the app. If you try to open Facebook when quiet mode is enabled, the app will show you a reminder that the app is in quiet mode as well as how much time is left before quiet mode ends. However, you may choose to manually bypass the system for 15 minutes.
Facebook is also rolling out more detailed usage statistics along with the quiet mode release. Now, users will be able to see their usage over a period of two weeks along with breakdowns of time spent on the app daily with separate day and night tracking. This new suite of features is intended to act as a mental health resource for people who may be finding it difficult to spend so much time alone during the coronavirus crisis. The company will be adding these resources to its coronavirus information hub as well. Facebook is also donating $2 million to crisis helplines around the world.
Facebook is rolling out the new feature as of now, however it might take some time before it becomes available to everyone. The rollout is expected to reach all iOS users by may and all Android users will have access to the feature by June.
Always update your Facebook App for the new features and for good performance.
